The person of your dreams is finally within your grasp. They have proven to be everything you thought they would be. The dates were perfect, the conversation was great, the romance was endless, and the wedding was the talk of the town. Life is good.
A year passes; two years; maybe a few months into the marriage has passed but things change. Like the weather, the relationship which was "flawless" in the beginning has now taken on a new image in which the pleasantries have begun to fade away. You ask yourself what happened only to hear silence. The confrontations, the disputes, the cold shoulder mentality, and what seems like torture has taken over. What happened?
The answer is closer than you think. It is as close as your skin and as loud as a heartbeat in a sthethoscope. The answer is within you. How can this be? Well, somewhere in the relationship, a change occurred and believe it or not, it happened in you. So what makes a happy marriage? The answer is an unselfish willing attitude that leads to effective communication and not just communication which allows you to only hear and not feel what your mate is saying.
Think about it for a minute. The whole time you dated, everything seemed to go well because each of you did everything from the heart in an effort to make sure the other felt cared for and loved. Now you are in the comfort zone in the marriage and feel that what was done in the beginning does not need to be done in the marriage. How wrong is this thinking. Go back to what got you together in the first place. From the heart the mouth does speak.
Get back to the basics of effectively communicating with your spouse and make sure they feel cared for and loved.
